Chapter 1 · Keepers and first signs

Read the first movement

Learn how motion, order, and one impossible body shape name the core idea.

Gigabyte, a chubby teal lizard with purple spines, frozen just after a jump while physical concentric rings rise from the stone floor and spread into the surrounding corridors.

Picture path

  1. Gigabyte lands and raised ripples spread ring by ring. What traversal is moving?Follow the frontier: an entire ring finishes before the next ring begins.
  2. Badger digs one tunnel to the bottom while side tunnels wait in darkness. What is he doing?Track one branch from entrance to dead end, then notice where he must return.
  3. Every jar already stands from smallest to largest and nobody is grabbing one. What does that order say?Look for a complete ordered run, then check whether a hand has removed the best item.
  4. Dex has an enormous head and checks an earlier solved jar before its cached result returns to the waiting caller’s jar. What is reused?Only the head is enlarged: it marks the top-down, memory-first direction.
